All document capture, optical character recognition (Apple Vision), and AI extraction (Apple Foundation Models) run locally on your iPhone. Your documents, their text, and every asset, expense, warranty, liability, and maintenance record are stored only on your device, encrypted at rest via iOS Data Protection.
Homestead is usable with no account and collects no personal data off your device for its core features. If you subscribe to Homestead Premium or make any in-app purchase, Apple processes the payment (we never see your card details). To confirm and honor your purchase, the signed App Store transaction is verified on our server and we store an entitlement record keyed to a device-generated token — never your name, email, contacts, precise location, or advertising identifiers. We never sell your data or use it to train AI models.
Everyday capture and extraction run on your iPhone. If a scan is hard to read, you may explicitly choose to use Cloud-AI for that one document. When you do, that single image (and any text already recognized on-device) is sent over an encrypted connection to our AI provider, Anthropic, solely to extract the document's fields. It is processed for that request and not stored by us; Anthropic processes it to fulfill the request and may retain it briefly for security and abuse-monitoring purposes only, never to train AI models. You can turn Cloud-AI off at any time in Settings; when off, nothing is ever sent. Cloud-AI is a Premium feature; we meter its use against your App Store purchase's transaction identifier only — there is no account, name, email, or other personal detail involved.
The app accesses the camera and photo library only when you choose to capture or import a document, and only to process that document on your device (unless you explicitly choose Cloud-AI for that one image, as described above).
We use a small number of processors solely to run the two off-device features above, under data-processing agreements and not for their own purposes: Anthropic (optional Cloud-AI reading of a document image you choose to send) and Supabase (hosting the function that verifies your App Store purchase and relays a Cloud-AI request, and storing the minimal entitlement record). Apple processes your payments.
Where the EU/UK GDPR applies, we process the minimal purchase-entitlement record to perform our contract with you and for our legitimate interest in honoring and protecting purchases, and we process a Cloud-AI image only on your consent (given per scan, withdrawable in Settings). These off-device operations are performed on servers in the United States (Anthropic, Supabase); by choosing these features you understand the data is transferred to and processed in the U.S. under our providers' data-processing terms. We retain the entitlement record for as long as needed to honor your purchase and meet legal/accounting obligations, and Cloud-AI images are not retained by us. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
You can export all of your data at any time (Settings → Export my data) and permanently delete everything (Settings → Delete all data). All household data on your device is deleted immediately and completely. A minimal purchase-entitlement record (a random device-generated token — no name, email, or contact detail) may remain on our server so we can continue to honor your App Store purchase; email [email protected] and we will delete it. Under the CCPA/CPRA we do not sell or share your personal information and have not in the preceding 12 months; the only category any provider receives is user-provided content/identifiers strictly to deliver the feature you requested. To exercise any GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA/CPRA right (access, correction, deletion, portability, objection), email [email protected]; we will not discriminate against you for exercising a right.
Homestead is not directed to children under 13.
